The Austonian, tallest residential building in Texas, appeared overnight or so it seemed to me. Between 2005 and 2010, the Austin skyline sprouted like an unkempt lawn in a wet summer; high rise condiminiums amid foothills of lofts. The recession has left most of the ground floor store fronts of these pinacles of optimism empty except for salons and day spas - urban dandylions, the first hopefuls to sprout amidst the concrete and glass.
